When several people want to club together for one bigger gift
The best gift is often one nobody can afford alone. The awkward part has never been the money — it is working out who is in, before someone has already bought something else.
What this does, and what it does not
Be clear about the limits, because plenty of tools overpromise here. This site does not split payments, collect contributions or take a cut. There is no fee because there is no money passing through it.
What it does is stop the collision. One person reserves the big item, everyone else immediately sees it is taken and spends their money elsewhere. That is the failure this actually prevents.
Say it is a group gift in the wish
Write the intent into the item — "the good telescope, happy for people to go in together" — and whoever reserves it knows to gather others rather than pay for all of it. The note field is the right place for a rough split or a person to contact.
Settle the money the way you already do: a bank transfer, a payment app, cash at the party. Nothing here needs to change for that to work.
One person holds it, the rest join in
The reservation shows a first name to other visitors, so anyone wanting to contribute knows exactly who to talk to. The person the list belongs to still sees none of it.
Can people pay their share through the site?
No. The site handles no money at all, takes no fees and stores no payment details. Contributions are arranged between the people giving the gift.
How do others know a gift is open to a group?
Say so in the wish itself. A short note like "happy for people to club together" is read by everyone who opens the list.
What if the group falls through?
Whoever reserved it can undo their own reservation from the same browser, and the gift goes back to being available.
Can two people reserve the same gift?
No. One reservation per gift, first come. That is deliberate — it is what stops two groups forming around the same present.
